MBTP Call for Nominations

Call for Nominations for the Molecular Biophysics Training Program, 2025/26

The nomination period is now closed.  The next call for nominations will be in the late spring or early summer in 2026.


 

The MBTP is calling for nominations for the 2025/26 cycle of the training grant, for one or two years of support, starting from September 1, 2025. This call is open to early-career students in the Biophysics Program who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Please find the deadline, full eligibility criteria and application materials below.

The selection will be based on the research and leadership potential of the nominees. The advisor’s level of participation in the program and equitable distribution of the training slots will also be considered.

Eligibility criteria

  • Students must be in their first, second or third year of graduate study beginning in Fall 2025

  • First year students are nominated by the Admissions Committee; second and third year students are nominated by their advisor

  • Students must be pursuing a Ph.D. degree in Biophysics at UW-Madison

  • Students must be working in the laboratory of a Biophysics Program Faculty Trainer

  • Students must not have already received more than 1 year of support in the previous Molecular Biophysics Training Grant

  • Students must be U.S. Citizens or permanent residents

*Please Note: Faculty members need to have completed a formal mentorship training within the past 5 years to be eligible to nominate a trainee. Faculty who are overdue on the training will need to produce evidence that they will attend the training in the Fall 2025. Deadline: Sunday, August 3, 2025.

Materials for the student’s application:

  • CV (PDF)

  • A single PDF with:

    • A one-page progress summary

    • A one-page future research plan

    • A one-page career goal statement

Student’s application form

Materials for the advisor’s nomination:

  • Letter of nomination (PDF)

  • A summary of the service and involvement of the advisor in the biophysics program

  • Detailed plans for funding the student post-T32 support, until graduation time

  • Date of most recent mentor training*

Financial Support

  • Stipend: stipend is provided by MBTP at the NIH support level ($28,788 for Fiscal Year 2025). The stipend should be integrated up to the Biophysics Program level ($37,000 in FY 2025) by the advisor.
  • Tuition and Segregated Fees are paid by the training grant.
  • Travel funds: $300/year can be requested to cover costs associated with travel related to training (incurred within the support period) such as participation at conference meetings or off-site collaboration.
  • Childcare cost: funds may be requested to cover childcare costs up to $3,000/year.
