Uncovering hidden patterns in single-cell and spatial omics data with a focus on cancer and immunology using data science approaches

Immune cell heterogeneity and plasticity in cancers and inflammation

We aim to understand the heterogeneity and plasticity of the cellular microenvironment, particularly myeloid cells, in the context of cancer and inflammation, using computational immunology. Despite exhibiting more fragile phenotypes than other immune cell types, such as T cells, myeloid cell heterogeneity and plasticity remain poorly understood due to limited data and technical challenges. We hypothesize that distinct myeloid cell types and their interactions with other cell types, either in existing conditions or induced by treatment, could modulate therapeutic response and serve as biomarkers of human disease evolution. To pursue this, we have used high-dimensional single-cell and spatial multi-omics profiling, along with novel, integrated bioinformatics analyses, to identify potential immunotherapeutic biomarkers and actionable targets, leveraging clinical data and preclinical model organisms.
